About Savio Gomes

Savio Gomes was born and brought up in Bandra West, Mumbai, India. He studied at St Stanislaus HS and then at MMK College where he completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce and Economics. He had an outstanding academic record at school and college, always within the first three ranks. Savio took up many part-time accounting jobs (small scale industrial, hotels and restaurants) before completing his chartered accountancy examinations in May 1988. His three years’ articleship was well spent with a leading firm of Chartered Accountant P C Hansotia & Co which later became part of the Deloitte network. 

He worked thereafter, with the country’s then top audit firm, AF Ferguson before working with two leading industrial private sector companies (engineering and steel sectors). During this period, he studied Quality Circles, Value Engineering and Ventilation Engineering.

In 1994, Savio joined consulting firm Mahajan & Aibara, carrying out consulting engagements and performance audits. As part of his work, he traveled extensively within India, and to the UAE and Kenya. In 1997, Savio joined the leading international consulting firm Ernst & Young as its first Director-Management Assurance Services in India.

He set up India’s first Blue Book for cars, set up India’s first online consulting firm, and carried out the well noted valuation of intangible assets for a large integrated steel plant, among other assignments such as the market mapping for ANZ Grindlays Bank in India. As part of his work, Savio visited Australia, UK, Armenia and California.

In 2001 Savio took up an assignment with Ernst & Young in Saudi Arabia and then was moved to Kuwait after 11 months. He carried out the valuation of group entities of the Saudi Binladin Group in Jeddah.

In Kuwait Savio worked with Ernst & Young, KPMG, Moore Stephens and BDO all top advisory firms. He later joined a large, diversified Kuwaiti private group as financial advisor. Between 2009 to 2015 Savio traveled on many occasions to the UK, carrying out acquisitions disposals and overseeing finances of the group’s UK based business units. Savio now oversees and advises on investments in USA, Kuwait, Europe and India.

Savio was a fairly active cyclist, table tennis, badminton player and cricketer, besides being a competitive FIDE registered chess player. He has attended chess tournaments in India, Italy, Kuwait and London. In 2015 Savio participated in the FIDE World Seniors’ Championship.

His travels led him to pen down his experiences in books, first in 2007, then in 2018, 2019 and 2020 with First Step Publishing in Mumbai. He has traveled to over 27 cities in India, Thailand (Bangkok), Italy (Rome, Aqui Terme), Canada Toronto), USA (Colorado, New York, San Jose, Houston), UK (London, Diss, Newcastle, Sunderland), Australia (Perth, Melbourne, Queenstown, Brisbane, Thalanga), Armenia (Yerevan, Ararat) Kenya (Nairobi, El Doret), Saudi Arabia (Jeddah), Iran (Tehran), Iraq (Erbil – Kurdistan), Bahrain (Manama), Oman (Ruwi), UAE (Dubai, Abu Dhabi). His professional interests remain finance and economics.
